2012 Breeding season started

We went to the Reserve yesterday and witnessed both eagles, their nest also shows signs of refurbishment, unfortunately they left the reserve at around 9:07 and moved to the Telkom Lattice Tower on the Mountain View side of the mountain, they spent well over an hour here on the same nest they built last year, hopefully it is still their secondary nest and will not be used for egg laying.

It is usual for Verreaux's eagles to build two nests, but they will favour one nest above the other, the occupants of the nest of last year (Crows) were close by, harrassing the eagles at this nest arround every turn.

We hope to have better news after next weekend - we do have until mid March for them to decide on a nest, we hope they choose the safer, more established nest in the Wonderboom Nature Reserve.
