The Breeding season has officially started, today Natasja and myself witnessed for ourselves copulating by the eagle pair. It was both miraculous and of great anguish to us, as they decided to copulate or mate on a telkom Lattice tower - Nesting activity has also begun with our eagles spending about 80% of their nest building time building on the Lattice tower and only 20% building on the Wonderboom Nature reserve nest.
Verreaux's Eagles on avarage build two to three nests and when the time comes the female decides which nest she wishes to use for the season, the fact that they are putting so much effort into the Lattice tower nest and so little time into the cliff nest is quite worrying to us as this might be an indication of their reluctance to nest in the nature reserve.
With the time for egg laying drawing nearer and nearer, we are keeping a close eye on this pair.
